Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 2026
Introduction
ScriptureWalk (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a GPS-powered scripture companion for Holy Land pilgrims. ScriptureWalk is designed to operate primarily offline with no user accounts and minimal data collection. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and when data may be transmitted externally.
Information We Collect
Location Data
ScriptureWalk uses GPS to detect when you arrive at biblical sites. Your location data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to any server. Visit coordinates are stored locally with reduced precision (~11m) and are automatically removed after 365 days.
Email Address (Website Only)
If you sign up for our launch waitlist on scripturewalkapp.com, we collect your email address and optional name. This information is stored securely and used solely to notify you when ScriptureWalk launches on the App Store. We will not share your email with third parties or use it for any other purpose. You can request removal at any time by emailing us.
Photos
With your permission, ScriptureWalk accesses your photo library to find images taken at biblical sites. Photos are stored locally and are never uploaded to any server.
How We Use Your Information
All data accessed by ScriptureWalk is used exclusively to provide app functionality. Location detects nearby sites. Photo metadata matches images to sites. All processing happens locally on your device. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for any purpose.
Data Storage
All app data (scriptures, journal entries, photos, preferences) is stored locally on your device using SQLite. There is no cloud sync, no user accounts, and no server-side data storage. GPS coordinates from site visits are stored with reduced precision and automatically expire after 365 days.
Third-Party Services
ScriptureWalk does not use analytics platforms, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, or any external APIs. All scripture, site data, and app features are bundled locally.
Apple MapKit provides map tiles per Apple's standard terms.
The ScriptureWalk website (scripturewalkapp.com) uses Vercel Analytics for anonymous, cookieless page view statistics.
Data Retention
Visit location coordinates are automatically removed after 365 days. All other data (journal entries, reflections, preferences) is retained until you delete the app. You can also clear your visit history at any time from the app's settings.
Your Rights
You can delete all ScriptureWalk data at any time by deleting the app from your device. You can also clear visit history from within the app. Since we don't maintain user accounts or server-side data, deletion is complete and immediate.
Children's Privacy
ScriptureWalk is not directed at children under 13. The app does not require accounts, does not collect personal information, and processes all data locally on the device. Location data used for site detection applies equally to all users and is never transmitted externally.
We recommend that a parent or guardian supervise use by children under 13, particularly regarding location permissions.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
